The World Has a Trip Planning Problem and it's Only Getting Worse
And I'm part of the Problem
I work part time as a travel agent where I help people plan the details of their trips: and even I think we have a problem with overplanning our vacations!
The perfectly planned trip falls somewhere between feeling confident that your planning will get you to your destination, makes sure you have a place to stay and ensures that you have plenty of fun activities and giving you the spontaneity to change tracks and do what works best on a given day.
Today I’m starting with a rant about what is wrong in the travel planning world and then I get practical with a few tips on how to plan better travel.
The problem is that we’ve moved the bar on trip planning. People are planning further and further ahead leading to hotels and campsites filling up earlier and earlier. This means that 6-12 months in advance (and sometimes longer) people need to start planning their trips. For someone juggling school, work, sports, and club schedules this is hard. And then to add to the ‘problem’ we are all paying extra to make the travel refundable because we really don’t know if we can commit to the trip 12 months in advance.
