Welcome to the First 7-Day Journey Through the Lens Challenge
Each month I’ll be starting the month with a 7 day travel photo challenge. I am a student of photography and love learning and challenging myself to take better photos.
Over the years I’ve become much better at taking photos - although I’m the first to admit that I have much to learn. Sharing photos and focusing on specific things is what makes me a better photographer.
Whether you want to take better family photos, capture landscapes, or collect travel memories - these challenges are for you!
Each of the challenges is designed for beginners and more advanced photographers so I invite you to join us and read more below on how the challenge works. You can join if you are:
A photographer
Someone who just wants to take slightly better photos
You just like photos
How to Challenge Works
The challenge lasts for the first 7 days of the month.
You can find the topics for each day below. You can use photos you’ve taken in the past or take new photos for the challenge.
At the end of the 7 days I’ll share the next month’s challenge topics so you can start to collect photos and take photos if needed
If you are new to photography - pop over and read my quick suggestions on how to take better travel photos.
To participate in the Journey Through the Lens Challenge - each day I’ll start a new chat with the photo prompt. Post your photo below and comment on as many photos from the chat as you can. You will need to be a free subscriber to my newsletter to get into the challenge and chat.
Please be patient with this challenge - it’s brand new and will likely take a little time to get up and running.
I will be offering the first month for free for subscriber if you want to try it out but this will likely become part of my paid subscribers content. You can only participate in the chat if you are a subscriber (free).

Day 3: People in the Shot – Include people in your photos to bring life and context to your travel scenes, showcasing the human side of adventure.
Day 4: Photographing Movement – Capture action shots that convey energy, whether it's a person in motion or an object caught in a moment of change.
Day 5: Attention to Light – Pay special attention to how light affects your scene, whether it’s natural sunlight, artificial light, or shadow play.
Day 6: Leading Lines – Use lines in your environment, like roads, fences, or rivers, to lead the viewer’s eye through the composition.
Day 7: 2 Photos - One You Like and One You Don’t – Share two photos from your adventure: one you’re proud of and one that didn’t turn out as planned.
April Photo Challenge
In our next photo challenge, we’ll be sharing different types of travel photos - including landscapes, wildlife, transportation, etc. Next month the focus is more on what’s in the photo! I’ll share the exact line up of days in the final day of the chat.
I can’t wait to see your photos over in the chat!
